Subject: Head Scratcher Du Jour- any ideas/advice/similar experiences

Wondering if anyone has any ideas/advice/similar experience with this: I just celebrated my 1 year anniversary as the proud owner of a pre-owned 1995 SE Convertible. Some thing just happened tonight that has my baffled. I was driving up the Garden Sate Parkway and decided to turn on the radio/cd player. When I tried to do this I got ERROR readout on the SID. Then the disc I was listening to started to play REALLY LOUDLY but I couldn't turn it down- The volume control and all the other function controls on the radio/tape/cd panel were not responding.... I stopped, turned the car off and pulled the CD cartridge out of the trunk- when I restarted the car I got the ERROR message again, but I was in silence for the rest of my ride home, since none of the radio buttons gave any response. After I pulled into the driveway I left the car running and put the cartridge back in the player and again I got the error message and the loud music.. Any ideas on what causing and how to approach this? Is it serious? a fuse? I can't find any mention of it in the manual Thanks all Kevin
