I bought a Carlsson which had serious engine problems due to being assembled using silicone sealant instead of the proper stuff, the silicone had got into the oilways, causing oil starvation to the top of the engine, causing all the tappets to go noisy. Luckily there had been just enough oil getting through to keep everything wet, so I didn't need to replace anything once I had cleared the blockage. The reccomended sealant is Loctite 518, but that doesn't have brilliant gap filling properties, and is only really for use to seal face joints, rather that to replace a missing gasket. The advantage to using the Loctite sealant is that it only sets in the joint, and if some gets into the oil it cannot cause a blockage.
