FWIW, my 92 900 had a similar and fairly heavy leak from the valve cover (cam cover in UK), through the orange gasket maker stuff used by previous. Its easy enough to remove the cover (bolts around the outside *and* inside edges of the cover, the inside bolts visible after you remove the cover plate over the spark plugs) Mine still had a rather hard plastic gasket in place under the orange sealer. I took this out, cleaned all traces of old hardened goo off all surfaces, and did an alcohol wipe down of all mating surfaces, including the gasket. Then squeezed gasket goo into the gasket slot in the valve cover, replaced the cleaned plastic gasket, and then covered it again in goo. All reassembled easily, and didn't overtighten the bolts - so not too much goo is squeezed out, and voila NO leaks! also stopped the leak around the distributor onto the heat shield above the turbo. Takes about an hour with all the cleaning and squeezing... but very much worth it. good luck gc
