Subject: My C900: Time for a "new" one??

I have a 89 900S, 175K, 5 spd, bought it at 115K in 1996. It's been a great car. I come from a Saab family. During reunions, looks like a SAAB lot. The problem is that this car is getting pretty rough. The head liner is totally shot (common, I know), I'm getting some rust here and there--hole in bottom of driver-side door. And most seriously, there is a lot of slop in the drive-train. If you tap the gas, you can feel it Ka-thunk back and forth as the play is reeled out and then taken back up. This also shows up if parked and put into say, 4th gear. It is possible to roll the car forward and backward about 8". It's always done this, but it is getting worse. The interior is rough, dash cracking, paint like chalk. Parking brake cables need replaced--300$. Brakes pulsate. Engine, steering, suspension, transmission, etc fine. I'm wondering if I should try to find a C900 in superior condition, or pour a bunch of money into this sample, which is a known quantity, and to which there is attachment? I get the impression Classic 900s are in demand. Maybe I should simply keep mine and do some major surgery? Thoughts, experiences? Dave
