Don't forget, at 5,000 miles, your engine is still breaking in... gas mileage will improve as it breaks in. A few pointers: - Be sure your tire pressure is set properly, using SAAB's recommendations, or slightly higher (+2 or +3 psi) - If you haven't changed your oil yet, go ahead and do so now, and ask for fully synthetic oil. Don't wait until 10,000 mi. - Don't carry any unnecessary objects (weight) in the cargo area - Try to avoid making unnecessarily short trips.. combine several errands into a single one to avoid driving with a cold engine - Don't "warm up" the engine for more than 30 seconds or so - Avoid unnecessary idling--if you're gonna be stopped waiting somewhere for more than a minute or so, shut off the engine In NYC suburbs, I'm seeing 23-24 mpg in mixed driving (lots of traffic around here) but on a recent highway road trip I actually got 34 mpg driving mostly 70-75 mph! I recently changed the oil at 5,000 miles with Mobil 1 0W-40 "European Car Formula". This is an '02 9-5 Aero sedan with 5 speed manual transmission. With the automatic transmission, I actually *have* heard of people getting better gas mileage using sport mode--I don't understand how this is possible (engine operates in a more efficient rpm zone perhaps?), but why not give it a try!
