I lost water more than once trying to get it home a few times, but never did any damage other than the head gasket, so I'd say the gasket is likely to be your only problem. My '90 900 has had a small externally leaking (oil) head gasket for about 8 years (!). My service guy says not to worry, but keep an eye on it. I also blew the water valve (under the dash) on the way home and made it ok with practically NO water for about 5 miles or so... Tough cars, these Saabs! -Joe
