Things to check: Does the car have a throttle potentiometer or a throttle position switch (will depend on when in 88 it was made, and what market it was made for)? You can tell by opening the throttle with your ear right next to the throttle body - if it's a switch, you'll hear a tiny click. If it's a potentiometer, then remove it, and spray half a can of contact cleaner into it while turning it with a big screwdriver. Does the connection on the side of the distributor look good/tight? Remove it, check, clean, and put back on. A failing ignintion coil can also produce these symptoms. Replace the coil (not expeensive or difficult). These are the most common causes; there are a whole load of others which are less common. If you have a throttle potentiometer, that's where my money is. Good luck. -- Grunff
