The look on that guy's face I'll never forget... I had a Jag XJR prior to deciding to fundamentally review my car requirements going forward. I hated the switch gear - very cheap and plasticky, and the plastic under the steering column and the fake leather arm rest on the center armrest were horrible things for a $70k+ car. And while the Saab has less leather and wood (wood I can do without anyway), I think the leather is more supple and nicer to the touch in the Saab. But I will always regret getting rid of my '95 XJS convertible to get that XJR, though - that car had its quirks, but was very nicely built inside. Nothing overdesigned, but simple and solid when it came to switchgear. Combine that with the fact that Jaguar service attitude had gone to the dogs after they introduced S and then X types - all stuff that made me finally go get a car I had long considered: Saab. I like the lack of pretentiousness and arrogance, and the brand-specific (yet very functional) quirkiness that reminds me in some respect of the XJS. The difference being with the XJS you knew maintenace would come at a very dear price once you ran out of warranty, and that the game would be over in the 100k-mile-plus arena. I like the idea of having a car that wil last me for at least 10 years - or hope Saab still builds 'em like that! ...pablo
