Subject: Bars leaks helps!

Hi, i was expierencing fogging up windows and coolant smell in my car (89 9000T) lately, so i guessed my heater core is on its way out. i then noticed that i was loosing coolant, not anytthing like too much or too fast but enough to be noticeable, so i figured i had to do something. being a lazy fella and knowing how tight it is in there (temperature control flap is broken) i chose to try out "bars leaks" as i read that lots of people had good expierence with that. it was around 10 euros at my local car store. i put 3/4 liter (1.32042 pint) coolant bottle under the upper radiator hose, opened the clamp and took it off slowly, i was parking slightly uphill, that might have helped, but i guess just the fluid of the expansion container and a little bit more went into the bottle. then i filled up the can of bars leaks with water, it looks really funny, its some kind of oil with little black pieces of ?something? inside. mixed with water it turns to some white emulsion (obviously). then i just used pliers to bend a little neck into the can and poured it into the coolant hose, held it up a bit and covered the opening with my hand while squeezing the hose slightly, this helped to make that stuff go down a bit so it wont run out when you reconnect the coolant hose, then a little more coolant drained into the bottle and i just reconnected the hose and filled the fluid from the bottle back into the expansion container and took the car for a good drive, around 30km on a nice mountain road. the temperature seems not to go up so much even going uphill or in city traffic and the smell and fogging up stopped. seems to be really good stuff, i can just advice everyone to use it when the slightest signs of heater core going show up. bye simon
