Subject: Starting problems - 1996 9000 CS



I have a 1996 Saab 9000 CS lpt automatic.  I have been unable to start it
for the last couple of days.
It will turn over and fire for a second and then stop.   At the same time
that this "starting" problem showed up it also  became impossible to take
the gearshift out of park.   According to the owners manual "If the battery
becomes discharged, it may not be possible to move the selector lever out of
the park position, even if the ignition os ON"    I installed a new battery
and have the same problems.  (In the past, this car has always started
perfectly)

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
