"'nuther Bob" wrote::: > I agree with the "put kids in the rear seat". Yes, it _is_ the safest, every parent should realize that. I hate to see kids or baby seats in the front seat as much as I hate seeing dogs lose in the back of pick-up trucks. It just seems so irresponsible to me. >There are still > legitimate reasons for disconnecting your air bag though. Yes, Johannes touch upon a reason of mine. Side airbags are ok, I would leave those alone. They make more sense to me anyway. According to statistics, most accidents are not head-ons. Personally, I do not want an airbag exploding into my face, I will take my chances otherwise. Did you know what the explosion is equal to? An M-80 is what I've been told. I've already been in an accident with my 900 (no airbag) the car was totaled, no fault of mine...and I was just fine except black & blue from the seat belt. > See this page for more info: http://www.nhtsa.org/airbags/ What an informative link, thanks. I bookmarked it. > Many newer vehicles are equipped with a simple key switch to > shut off the passenger side airbag. Yes, I've seen that, but the explosive to detonate the airbag is still there even if it is switched off. > To do it "officially" in the USA, you have to file a form with > the NHTSA. It should be done officially, as some people count on airbags, and if you ever sold your vehicle that info should be disclosed. > I noticed that Saab is not listed as having a > manufacturers device to do this. I know, and probably for a reason. Saab stands behind safety, and it is a proven fact that airbags save lives. Interesting, there is no cut off limit for height & weight, and they would be hard pressed to figure that one out anyway.
