Yah, dell makes a nice box, I've got a few of 'em myself. You can use that screen on any mac too, by the way. >>>Apparently Mac users don't really care what they use unless it has the >>>shiny Mac logo on it... >> >> Apparent to whom, based on which incomplete observations on your part? > Aha, you're assuming my observations are incomplete. By not limiting your statement, one counterexample invalidates your statement. But do go ahead and backpedal, I'd like to see it. > - The Mac userbase has been relatively constant in numbers (there hasn't > been a huge growth AFAIK) Based on what, please? I haven't looked for any "switch" statistics, but I'd be shocked if there werne't more people going from Windows to Mac, than the other way around. I would think that a market share analysis would provide the answer here, but I can't be sussed to google one up. > - Most Mac users stick to their machines & MacOS (as do Win users) I can see 6 people from here who started out with machines with Windoze installed and who now have Linux on them. Same machine, this one even runs 'doze in a VMWare window when necessary. Does that support or refute your theory? NOt sure; same machine after all. > - Therefore most Mac users got in at the time the MacOS had nothing to > do with Unix. If you're basing this on your previous flawed points, I'm not sure that you can logically say this. Some folks got into the current generation of Mac because they had the previous generations(s) of Mac, and some are new to Mac since they went to Unix. Of those who are new to Mac since they went to Unix, some are new for that reason, and some are new because they just hadn't come to Mac yet. > - Mac users have always been relatively strong advocates (defending > their 'choice' to be different) Yes, similar to how Saab enthusiasts feel about their car. When one knows about a better option, it's hard not to be enthusiastic about it. Share the joy, and all that. > - I followed some of the debates in wich the Mac advocates used to > defend the Mac's lack of a CLI (Command Line Interface) vigorously. Well, it's alot more than just command line of course. >>>Yes, I like Macs a lot more than I used to since they have OSX, but I >>>still hate the subculture of cool-for-cool-sake followers around them. >> >> People who don't understand Saabs and why they have such an intense following >> probably feel the same way about Saab. > Do they have an intense following compared to other minority brands? VW owners (esp. aircooled) have shared personality traits, generally speaking. Are you asking if certain things attract certain kinds of people? Of course. > I noticed - after driving mine for years - that other > Discovery owners actually waved at me when I drove by. Please tell me > that *won't* be the case for my new 9-3, cause I hated it... Better sell your 9-3 then, or get used to it. When I take my 96 or 97 out, I get waves from Saab drivers who may never have *seen* a Saab that old. Maybe this summer I'll give the 95 some exercise...yes...that would be good. Dave Hinz
