No ABS may make the problem somewhat easier to solve (but not much). At least we don't have to consider malfunctioning ABS components in this equation. Since you were in a panic at the time (and too busy with other bodily functions), you probably did not think of running any helpful tests, like pumping the bake pedal to see if braking would be restored by that action (Something to consider if it happens again). I assume that it hasn't happened again, possibly because you have stopped driving the car? It is possible that the master cylinder is failing and that one half of the dual-diagonal system remained operational. Assuming that the front right locked up, that would mean that the left rear was also working. Since the rear bakes don't provide as much braking force, it didn't lock up - at least not so that you would notice at the time. My nearly random, unqualified recommendations without having examined your car: 1) Flush/bleed the brake fluid if you haven't done that lately. If you haven't previously changed the bake fluid in the past 5 years, you might want to first consider: 2) Replace the master brake cylinder. Doing this requires you to replace the brake fluid from the system. The only other parts in the system are the calipers, pads, and lines. The problem could potentially lie there also, but as I said previously, it would be very odd for more than one caliper or line to fail at the same time. Old brake fluid might make this more likely, though. If you bleed the brake fluid and it comes out black, dark, or with particle-like chunks, your fluid is very old which may lead to damage throughout the brake system. If you car is not automatic transmission, keep in mind that the brake fluid also is used to operate the clutch and that system will have to be bled too. Good luck.
