If it wasn't a failure of the ABS system (you didn't mention if you had ABS), and if there wasn't a low fluid warning light (you didn't mention that there were any warning lights associated with this problem), it could be that your calipers are sticking and overheating the brake fluid until the bakes cease operating - except for the one wheel that locked up. This is a long shot guess because it would be very bizarre for 3 calipers to seize at the same time unless someone somehow tampered with them or put improper fluid in the master cylinder that has made its way to the calipers. That would be odd too, because you most certainly would have experienced braking problems immediately after this improper fluid was added. BTW, which wheel locked up? That might give some kind of clue (while I make up --- errr, think of other potential answers). Was it the back passenger side wheel?
