Subject: Re: 94-98 Radiator Flush/Fill...Is insane!

In case anyone wants to attempt this procedure and save the $70 bucks everyone seems to charge, here's what I did : 1. Get some clear 1/2" tubing from Home Depot 2. Cut it about 2ft. length 3. Get the car on some ramps or jack it up...get under the car (you might not have enough room if you're using ramps and a creeper) 4. Remove the aluminum tube running from the intercooler to the bottom of the turbo and you'll also need to slowly remove the anti-freeze expansion tank cover 5. Take your clear tube and get it over the radiator drain nipple; it's located at the bottom left of the radiator, it's black and you can barely see it if you don't have a light down there) 6. Using the tube as a tool, turn the tube until you get anti-freeze slowly trickling down, then get a proper bucket, oil pan, etc. to drain your used fluid into and once in place, turn the clear tube until a nice stream is coming down (Don't overturn as you'll pull the drain all the way out)and be sure to dispose of that junk properly (don't forget about the bunnies) 7. After it has all drained, either hook up a flush kit (attach the flush tee to the black tube coming off the water pump located on the right of the engine (it's about 4" N-NW from the steering fluid container)or run some radiator cleaner through your system (make sure you close the drain first(see below)) 8. To get the drain to close I recommend using a "snakedrive" screwdriver or similar with either a medium sized hex head or flat head inserted into the drain nipple opening. You could use the clear tube you made to close the drain, but you might not have enough torque to get it to close all the way and you don't want all the fuzzy bunnies drinking your anti-freeze in your front yard (unless you hate bunnies) 9. For 50/50 anti-freeze to H20, you'll want to premix 4.25 liters of anti-freeze into the expansion tank and then fill it up just above the KALT mark with water. You could premix the H20 but don't forget that you'll have some residual water still in your system from the flush you just gave it...Or forget what I just said if you KNOW you got all of the water out...Keep in mind that most anti-freeze makers prefer you put in half, run the car for 10 minutes and then put in the rest...Or just through it all in like lazy me... 10. A day or two later, check your mix levels with a nifty anti-freeze thingy and enjoy... 11. NO suing me if you follow the aforementioned instructions and break yourself or your car. If you don't know what you're doing and get lost call the Saab guy in town...They'll be glad to help... Cheers, Chris
