Subject: How is the MPG measured/estimated

Hi there, I was wondering, the fuel consumption that my '95 9000CS puts on the bar display (current) and numeric display (avg) of the trip computer, how is that measured. I don't suppose the actually travelled distance is devided over the amount of petrol going throught the injectors... Would be hard to measure it like that... Even more so because that would mean that switched to LPG, the computer would get erratic values... So, is it estimated through the exhaust mixture, as measured by the L-sond? That would also be impossible, because when the wire from the L-sond was cut by an assholic LPG installation, it would still produce readings for fuel consumption. But how is it measured then? It cannot be purely estimated on basis of speed/distance, because I get different consumtion figures on LPG or petrol... I'm left wondering... Nel PS: reading through another thread (that is already purged from my newsfile) I saw someone mentioning a part called a "DI casette" Not known in my vocab yet. What's that?
