I just cut off the roof between the front and rear window, making it a = Targa model, a bit like the SAAB Catharina prototype. See pics at = http://members.home.nl/mhilvers/cabrio/cabrio96.htm The wiring harness that went trough the left A pillar and roof to the = back now is on the floor, next to the 2 brake lines. Also cut the B pillars but I can replace these and also the rear side = windows. Then I made a bar out of square tube to slide in the tops of = the B pillars to support the canvas top. Along the front edge of the cut = off roof I welded a stainless steel 'C' channel that holds the beaded = front edge of the canvas top, the rear of the canvas attaches to the = rear roof with buttons (photos to come). My plan is to adapt the cut off = roof section as a hard top. =20 > I know for a fact that the roof & pillars are enough to hold a 96 > together (although the brake & fuel lines don't like it), but did you > have to brace the rocker panels, or how did you do it? After I cut off the roof I drove the car and I noticed a lot of = torsional movement while going over bumps etc. In the rear view mirror I = could see the rear window move independent of the front window. I also = had to adjust the door lock /catch mechanism. To make the body more = ridgid I welded a 7 cm (3") high inverted U section on top of the rocker = panels, from the front fender to the B pillar (photos to come). There are many more 96 and some 99 convertibles, see http://members.tripod.com/mhilvers/specials/special.htm#cabrio ------------------------------------------- MH '72 97 '77 96 '78 95 '79 96 http://go.to/saab96
