Subject: New Wheel bearing makes a big difference.

Car went in for a wheel bearing change on the right hand front wheel. Had gone from a slight clunk, to a huge thump within the week when they could inspect it, and the next weekend when they could actually fit it when I could get there. Previous to my ownership, the last owner had had it maintained by a Saab Independant in Liverpool. These where the same guys who capped off the dump valve line when the valve obviously started leaking. I was told by my mechanic after the repair that it looked like the bearing had already been replaced at some point in the past (in the first 120k Miles), as he had had to do quite a bit of filing to clean up some distorting and damage. When I told him previous work had been done by a Saab Independant, he said "Must have used a Saab approved lump hammer instead of a press then, that would explain the damage". Looks like the last replacement bearing died prematurely by not being squarely fitted. -- Carl Robson (The poster formerly known as Skodapilot) http://www.bouncing-czechs.com
