Subject: Re: Traded my 900S for and Audi Quattro: Spock!

I should have given more emphasis to the problems I've had with my Saab dealers incredibly inconsistent repair record. For example, the parking brake had never worked properly. It would occasionally hang, in which case I had to crawl under the car and manually pull that actuating lever back. I asked the dealer to address this problem about 4 times. So eventually I started to notice pulsating brakes. The rotors were replaced, and 3 months later the brakes were pulsating again. I think that damned hand brake--which I thought to be fixed by this point--was hanging enough to heat the rear rotors. When I traded the car in, it was still pulsating badly--something that drove me crazy. Also--the A/C has been a problem for some years, failing to reach proper exit temp. That stinking Saab dealer was unable to correct this problem. Other stuff: The white paint is like chalk, the interior is trashed--cigarette burns on the seats. Head liner shot--of course, held up with clothes pins. There is a rust hole in the drivers side door. AND--the most mystifying problem, again not resolved by the dealer, is a huge amount of slop in the drive train. It was like that when I bought it. Other than that: The fuel pump, computer, and a handful of other $$$ repairs, it was relatively reliable. Think it has the original clutch at 175K. Anyway, you must understand that when I bought that car 10 years ago, I really did not appreciate the nature of Saabs and especially the value of the classic 900 series. My dad drives Saabs so I bought one to replace a Toyota Tercel. Had I known what I know now, I would have taken radically better care of it and sought superior repair facilities. The Audi dealer (independent imported car guy) gave a 1000$ for trade-in. I know trade-in numbers are metaphysical, but I'm tempted to buy the 900S back and turn it into a restoration project.
