One is a constant hot feed to the unit. The other is hot only when you pull the wiper wash switch. The switched hot sends power to the motor and starts it moving. Inside the unit, once it starts moving, a small rotary cam closes a switch to the other (permanent hot) wire and that power keeps the motor moving after you've let go of the switch and disconnected the switched power source. The cam rotates around and disconnects the permanent hot wire inside the unit when the wipers reach the parked position. If the permanent power is not available, you will get the symptoms you describe. Or, there could be a problem in the unit. Check the power connections or a set of *carefully* rigged jumpers would let you hook it up to the working side of the car to see if it's a power or unit issue. You can disassemble it, but it was not designed for that. Be sure to carefully scribe a mark on *every* piece that you pull out of the case since all the cams and gears need to line up when you're done. Pay particular attention to the little tall gear that cams the switch. It will be impossible to mark so you'll just have to memorize its position in relation to the other components. BTW - a piece of string tied to the wiper switch, pulled back behind the steering wheel, and then to the front of the car will give you a nice "pulley" arrangement which will allow you to pull the wiper switch without an assistant. Bob (who, as you may be able to tell, just spent way too many hours working with a wiper motor problem)
