Subject: "whistling noise" in cabin at => 65mph in Saab 900 Convertible -- Reposting question from March 2003

Hello fellow Saab enthusiasts, A few monts ago I posted a question for a colleague of mine who had recently purchased in what appears to be a very to excellent condition. It is a Black 1999 Saab 900 Convertible. After owning it for a week or so he grew weary of a "high-pitched whistling sound" emanating from deep within the dash IF he is travelling above 65mph. The annoying sound occurs whether or not the windows are cracked or if the recirculated air function is "on" or "off." His independent Saab mechanic is estimating that they will have to to disassemble the entire dash to locate the source of the problem at substantial cost to my colleague. He is hoping it can be solved without tearing apart the dash. I am posting this question again because he and the technicians who have worked on the car still have not been able to solve the problem. Back in March, a couple of folks here suggested the following possible sources for the noise: 1) poor seal around the fresh air flap (recirculating air vent) 2) loose / flapping bits of plastic or trim around the radiator - secure with zip ties or duck tape ;-) 3) squealing mechanical bits (e.g., bearing) at higher rpm.... Others said to take it to the dealer/stealer to have the problem remedied under warranty. Not sure that route was particularly fruitful, as yet, for my colleague. Please drop me a line if you can be of assistance...please remove the NO SPAM text before sending your message or it will bounce back to you: parataxicdistortionnopsamAMyahoo.com Thank you again for your thoughts, Tim in N.
