And what were the symptoms leading this brainsurgeon Jerry to deduce it needed one? SAAB 4 cylinder engines are notorious for having cooling system problems. These can usually be rectified in relatively short order by replacing a few parts (lower temp thermostat, lower temp fan switch, etc.) but they are also notorious for developing bad head gaskets if proper cooling system maintenance is ignored. Bad head gasket symptoms can mimic cooling system problems (overheat, loss of coolant, etc.) I would be very wary of this unless you are looking for a "fun" project like replacing the headgasket yourself, in which case you would definitely want to knock at least a thousand off the asking price since that what you'd pay a mechanic to do the headgasket. SAABs of that year and mileage are all over the place at that price. Find one with impecable maintenance records.
