I'd be a little concerned if there was no Saab dealer around. I think a GM or other shop would work on it for you, but they'd have no expertise. Have you checked around for local Saab shops ? The Saab independent mechanic are usually good. Mechanics that specialize in "European" cars will also probably have some experience. Since it's dirt cheap, if might be worth a risk and a few visits to mechanics to check out. At the very worst you could sell it for parts for more than $1200.
