Subject: Oil Pressure Saab Accessory Gauge Questions
My Saab accessory gauge denoting the oil pressure has decided to go wrong.
When the ignition key is turned to the pre-crank position, the gauge flies
up to the end of the gauge (hereafter referred to as the far end). After
cranking (which causes the gauge to flicker slightly), the needle return to
the far end of the gauge. The normal oil pressure light is still working
correctly though.
When I pull either wire (positive or negative) or both from the sender
located just above the oil filter, the gauge remains unaffected with the
needle firmly at the far end. Pulling the power wires from the back of the
gauge or turning the car off returns the needle to the zero position.
I'm thinking that the sender could be duff, but surely a more gradual death
would have been seen. Is there a possibility that a relay, or fuse, might be
at fault. I have no documentation for the gauge and would very much
appreciate some help from anyone who has one of these gauges installed who
can point me to a wiring diagram, or has also experienced this.
Many thanks,
Paul
