As a long-time Saab owner (I owned both a used 99 and 9000, both with considerable mileage on them, before my current 9-3, which I've owned from new), I know all too well what expenses maintenance can run up, especially when major parts start to go. So my question is: is it worth to purchase an extended warranty on my Saab from the dealer? It looks like, for an extra 4K Canadian, I can cover the vehicle for an extra two years or 40,000km (up to 120,000km). Is this worth the price? Should I attempt to negotiate the price downwards (from what position can I bargain, though, I wonder)? Or would I be better off sticking that four grand in a term deposit and paying for problems if and when they occur? I'm just thinking that between 90 and 120K km things like exhaust manifolds, wheel bearings, brake calipers, A/C system, and other exciting (and expensive) parts can start to fail (at least they did on my 9000), and that starts encouraging me to think that the extended warranty might be a good idea. -- Viktor Haag : Software & Information Design : Research In Motion +--+ "Mmmmm look at me!
