The standard test for a weak fuel pump - hard start problem is to do what you did: turn it on, let the pump run for a minute to build pressure, then try to start it. They theory is that the pump is weak and doesn't fill the line enough quickly after the nightly drain down. Once the line is full, the weak pump can keep up with the flow so that operation if not affected greatly. Bob
