You're kidding, right? Crutchfield lists more than 200 head units that work
in my '99 9-3, and more than 60 that work in a '96 900 like the one the
original poster has. They throw in the wiring harness and a DIN removal
tool. They do include a note on the '96 that says you'll have to fabricate a
mounting kit and offer a toll-free number for expert advice: 1-888-955-6000
On the other hand, if the original head system is working, it's simpler and
more cost-effective to just add amps and replace the speakers for more
power, range and clarity. Adding a CD changer in the trunk is also a fairly
simple matter, if you buy the right one. Again, Crutchfield has it. They are
a bit pricey, but service is good and they do a better job of hand-holding
than any other online vendor.
