Recharging with R-134a should not be difficult. You should have this new refrigerant, not the older R-12. However, there are direct replacements for R-12, just in case. One is called Freeze-12 and is approved by the EPA. Another is ES-12a and has not been tested by the EPA. Get a manual and follow the directions. If you have a leak, you may need to get the system fixed first. Be sure all connections are tight before adding refrigerant. Charles.
