Thanks for replying, I tried the suggested method for re-setting but it didn't work, unfortunately. I'll drop into the dealer sometime. As for the dead battery, it might be worth mentioning that the car was owned from new by an undertaker (it's black, not surprisingly) and it had an immaculate interior. This was why I was sold on it, along with the full dealer-service history and low (for a Saab) mileage, but none of that is any guarantee of how the car was actually driven and looked-after. Such things I had never considered before reading the many very useful postings on this newsgroup... I'll mention the charging system to my garage at the next service in 3000 miles time.
