Comments about accessory belts/AC clutches etc. don't apply since they're on the right side of the engine, when in the cabin, although I've had my share of nosie and repairs from them too. When this nose is active, how does cruise control behave? Cruise is maintained by a vacuum pump which is closer to where you are describing the sound source (than AC clutch, belts...). What else is in that viscinity? Lessee, there's the master cylinder but it's passive. There's (going from memory, here...) the fuel filter, pisser jug and pump, nothing of interest here. How does the sound behave when you tap the clutch? Could this be a complaining throw-out bearing? (however, they usually are quiet with the clutch pedal out). Does the frequency (pitch) of the noise vary with rpm? Road speed? Moon phase? -chris MarkC wrote: > > Starting this past Friday I get a very annoying & loud (so loud I can't > stand it & must pull over & turn off the engine) high pitch screech > coming from under the left side of the dashboard.
