You hear these warnings over and over, but you very rarely hear a story about a chain actually breaking, or even being worn enough to require replacement. There's a Saab garage near me where I occasionally buy parts. I was speaking to their mastertech about chains, and he says that in 20 years he's only ever seen one broken chain, and that in a typical year he replaces 2-3 chains. -- Grunff
