I've had a same sounding noise in my 9000i / '87. There it was the "wheel" that is powered by the motor. This wheel is on the axle to the engine connected over a rubber. This tiny little rubber wasn't there anymore so the wheel didn't fit to the axle. The repair took me 700,- EUROS to get this fixed. Regards, Christoph in his worst technical english...
