since replacing front tyres the abs has started functioning as soon as the
brake pedal is pressed. reluctant to take it to the garage who put the
tyres on as they are not saab specialists. could they have messed something
up in replacing the tyres?

was not the abs causing the problem although the effect from the brake pedal
was exactly the same. turned out that both rear discs were very badly worn
with pieces of metal actually rusted away from the disc surface giving
different thickness of disc. it was this difference in thickness which was
giving the impression of the pumping action associated with the abs working
properly. an extra 100gbp on the service bill but well worth it. would
recommend Griffin Autotechniks of boroughbridge. not much to look at but
at least you can get in there with the mechanic, rather than be told the
problem by the receptionist. (and much cheaper!)
