In earlier times before there were SAABs - people who would have owned SAABs could mostly be found round the cracker barrel smoking meerschaums and playing checkers.. You see, your problem is what faces all 'utility classic' owners like ourselves eventually.. Basically - things on SAABs fail or get dodgy but we will keep on rolling until we pass a wreckers yard with some spares to fix the bothersome window lift fault, for example.. We would all likely have given up on the brand entirely except that the darned turbo charged SAAB is just such an excellent, exceptional driver.. Leaking roof, sagging headliner be damned - I'm pulling out to pass.. Which, as a turbo owner, you will appreciate one of life's greater serious rushes - all the more so considering the advanced engineering for the age of the car.. On the other hand - you are up against the kind of problem that can spoil the greater owner/SAAB relationship permanently as it can turn into a *bunch* of trips to the shop if you are not careful to get it all fixed at once.. This is where otherwise normal and intelligent people start to look seriously at what a great deal a bumper to bumper warrantee on Kia is and no one - no matter where they hail from - should be so lonely with their SAAB problem as to end up there.. Basically - you may well be looking at some serious work one way or the other.. The experienced SAAB owner either puts a round between the headlights and starts looking around for another used one (having taken Old Paint's radio and a few other working items out) - or - starts fixing whole system problems because the rest of the shell/systems are pretty good and you might get another 100,000 miles out of your scandinavian.. I hope she is in a condition that you feel you can stick by her - I think the SAAB 9000 is one of the best all around cars ever built period and I hate to think another one may not be with us in a couple of weeks (depending).. I like it's design and layout - if you are lucky enough to have a hatch you have enough room to haul fridges and - while not as sporty as the 900 - I'm old enough to enjoy the subtleties given the family mine now carries around here.. On the other hand - you have to be willing to pull the trigger given that you can often buy another one for about the same money as a *series* of repairs.. Depending on the extent of your problem - it's a bit of coin toss and therefore kinda interesting.. Besides - I just learned that you can indeed repair the seals without pulling the head on SAAB engines - that's important to know as my 2.0T engine gets into 335,000kms.. Whatever the case - whatever you do - you'll have something to contribute to the next poor SAAB owner who happens along with a problem like yours.. Welcome to the club - pass it along brother Evans.. :) .. -- J Dexter - webmaster - http://www.dexterdyne.org/ all tunes - no cookies no subscription no weather no ads no news no phone in - RealAudio 8+ Required - all the Time Radio Free Dexterdyne Top Tune o'be-do-da-day Peter Frampton - Do You Feel Like We Do http://www.dexterdyne.org/888/139.RAM
