Very useful. Referring to your other post, the fuel filter has been changed in the last 6 months and I clean my air filter when I do oil changes each 3000 miles. I think I've found the problem though. I booked the car in at my garage this afternoon and mentioned what had been said here. They'll check over the system for me and make sure everything works as it should. While driving home from the garage, the idle suddenly dropped and went very lumpy, almost hunting and I got the shakes again ... through the steering wheel up to 2000 RPM. I flipped the lid up and listened for a while, giving it a rev now and again, but I couldn't find anything. As I got back into my car, I noticed a hissing noise from the back that I'd not heard before. Hoping it was as simple as a hole in the fuel filter, I got under that car. There was no petrol smell and no leaking, but the hissing got louder as I got under the petrol tank. There's barely any petrol smell from the exhaust, so the mixture must be good and I'm getting a clean burn. The noise is a hissing, almost fizzing noise and from the outside seems to be inside the fuel tank. In the boot, I couldn't smell anything and upon lifting the sub-floor, the hissing gets much louder. When I got home, I unbolted the sub-floor completely and turned the engine on, but the idle is spot-on and no hissing. Is this the fuel pump starting to die? Now, where was I going with this ramble? That's it! I presume a pressure test would show up a faulty fuel pump. Where would I plumb one in? I'd prefer something I can look at all the time, like an in-dash gauge (or maybe leave the gauge in the engine bay) - where would be good to put the sender? I think the sender would fit into a pipe insert with a UNF type of fitting. Bugger, soon I'll have more gauges than Saab's other Aeros :) Thanks again everyone who has replied and helped me with this. Paul
