The cause - according to my dealer - is that the unit gets warped over a period of time which causes the shafts to move more heavily until the knobs start to break. The only fix is indeed to replace the unit (which they did under warranty). I hope the new units are more than the old ones or we'll probably need another one in a few years (they cost 400 Euros I think)... Xenna.
