i have an '89 900S (16v non-turbo) with 185,000 on it and it runs
better than my subaru with 42,000. according to my local saab garage
there are three major repairs that old saabs will need:
1 - clutch - well all cars need them i guess, but i'm still on the
original and it's in better shape than my subaru's clutch, just
amazing
2 - harmonic balancer - apparently as these things age they can slip
off the shaft and cut the oil pump, this is a bad thing. mine was
starting to wear so i had it replaced around 160,000 and everything's
been fine since.
3 - power steering rack - mine started to make some noise around
170,000, all the saab garage had to do was change the fluid and all
was well. they say around 200,000 or so i'm going to need to replace
the rack, which will be costly. but i can't complain, i've only had
one some what major repair (harmonic balancer) all this time and the
car just won't die.
hope this helps.
