Thank you Tom, Grunff, and Keith for the great replies. I am thinking I should have the 9000 2.3L turbo flywheel lightened to achieve about the same or slightly less moment of inertia as the original flywheel of an 8 valve engine. Another concern would be the geometry of the flywheel. Isn't the offset for a 9000 flywheel different for that of an early 900? Wouldn't this cause problems for fit as well as engagement of the starter with the ring gear? I am not familiar with harmonic balancers. Do these provide a balancing affect with the flywheel and clutch or is it mainly for the crankshaft? And what is a quill shaft support bearing? I've never even heard of a quill shaft.
