However, when we had a few cold days over Xmas, when the car wasn't getting used as much, the already flaky/stiff wobbly lock froze several times and needed de-icer to open it, then it was stiffer and rattlier than ever. I too gave it a squirt of of WD40 to chase any water out of the lock, with any lube effect being a bonus. As it happens, the lock is so smooth, and doesn't resist the key at all now (but only that key, not any key).
