Subject: 1996 SE V6 warning light and noises

Greetings, some questions from a saab newbie... I bought a 96 '900se' convt with a V6 about six months ago and love the car. a few days ago i started hearing some noises that sounded like the automatic tranny was slipping. It sounded almost like a kitchen blender was running under the car when at an idle and at takeoff, but it got quiet when the car picked up speed. The Tach or Speedometer however didnt move to the "slippage" (but it occasionaly shifts hard from first to second ) Tonite at a stop light an alarm on the dash sounded, the battery light and the < ! > light came on. No warning shows on the CID screen. Im thinking now it maybe the alternator bearing that i am hearing. The serpentine belt is still intact. Any ideas? i sure dont want to take it to a transmission shop for them to "find" nonexistant problems if it is only the alternator. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks! PS..What fuse do i pull to defeat the "always on" feature for the headlights?
