When under pressure from the exhaust gas flow the 'slack' is taken out of the seal, when lifting off the volume of exhaust gas reduces and the seal opens up again. Time for a re-build, kits start at about 75quid and if your handy with a spanner and patient its not hard. Define vacuum hoses and I'll let you know on that. Cheers Matt
