The 9-3 is at the long end of a mature line and most of the problems have been worked out. Given the choice, I would buy one that is 3 years old with 40K miles. That will give you an entire year to have most anything replaced under the bumper to bumper warranty (in the USA). Saab even covers stuff like batteries and mufflers IMHE so it's a real worthwhile warranty. The only things they don't cover are tires, wiper blades, etc. Buy a turbo, buy a standard. I'd get a convertible, but that's me. Expected mileage is 24-29 typical. Some folks report better on long trips. As they say "most people who drive a Saab buy one", so go drive one.
