Subject: Re: Aquamist/water injection systems

Dave, Don't mince your words! Do you agree or disagree? Seriously though, what you say sounds reasonable to me though I am not qualified to argue these points in any detail. I'm sure my friend will find them interesting and informative. Please don't get me wrong, he doesn't dismiss water injection completely. He just reckons that most cars, most of the time, will not benefit and that it's all too easy to be led up the garden path by claims of "extra power for nothing more than water". I find his cynicism reasonable. I'm sure he understands as you do, that extra power is delivered by (inter alia) extra boost, with corresponding fuelling, and that pre-ignition is a more than an academic consideration. I'm sure he will readily agree that if all other measures have been taken, then water injection is a highly realistic option to consider and I was at pains to reflect this in my summary of his conclusions. I expect you are correct in your assumption that my friend did not specifally address the Saab system. His main interest lies in Japanese cars of the 1990s and 2000+ with (predominently) Denso systems. Unless there are sophistocated versions, I understand that these do not attempt to control ignition in exactly the way you describe of the Saab system, though they are more advanced than "set by timing light" ignition timing. It was an oversight on my part to pass on his conclusions without qualification. He will no doubt also take me to task for doing so. Adrian
