Suddenly release the left foot and keep the right foot on the gas. This was a common technique in the 1970's when you had your mother's car with an automatic and you were trying (like an immature teenager) to race someone with a manual transmission. This does not come highly recommended. Instead of a Chrysler Newport (318 2 bbl with the reverse threaded lug nuts on the driver's side), I now drive a classic Saab SPG with a manual transmission :-)
