This is worth $500 by itself so it might be worth it. If it's a 4-cyl, I would not pay for the "90K service" but would have qualified independent mechanic look the car over for any _needed_ service. As to the check engine light - 50% of these are due to a loose or defective gas cap. Make sure it's tight. If that's the problem, it will go away after a few days once the cap is tight. It's just a guess but it's a 50/50 shot. If it's not the gas cap and you have a turbo, it could be the "DI cassette". If the DI is throwing check engine lights, the car will probably be running really rough. If not, I doubt it's the DI. HOWEVER, since you live in the Boston area, here's an easy way to get some more information on the check engine light. There's a code stored in the computer that describes what it is. Go to a local Autozone store. Ask the guy behind the counter to come out and read the code for you. Write down whatever it says on his display and post it here. Don't leave anything out. This is a FREE service at Autozone. Don't buy anything, just post it here and we'll give you a pointer to the next step. FYI - I'm assuming you really mean "check engine" and not "service due" displayed on the SID. The Service Due reminder lights periodically and you can clear it by holding down the SID Clear button for about 20 seconds (keep holding until it beeps... and not the quick "cleared" beep ... a later one. Depending on what you mean by "the Boston area", you might try "the Doctor" in Westford or Acton, MA. They have a good reputation. Village Saab in Acton has great service but charges dealer prices. >Anyway, I would like to be "armed" with some idea of the problem >before I enter the snake pit. >BTW. Anybody know of any good and honest SAAB mechanics in the Boston >area?
