Subject: Re: oops, The ticking sound is on a 1998 900se

LOL! The sound is in the engine compartment. The sound dosen't start until I start the car and put it in gear, then when I come to an idle I can hear the sound. The sound dosen't go away but can only be heard during idle because road and engine noise cover it when moving. It is a pronounced and steady tick tick tick sound and the tick does not get louder or faster with acceleration. It's been going on now for at least 6 months and last week the "check engine " light came on and stayed on. I'm bringing it to the dealer for the 90,000 mile service. They are charging me $630. for the service and addittional money to find the "check engine" problem. This is upsetting because I have had bad experiences with every SAAB dealer in my area (Boston) and don't trust any of them as far as I can throw a grand piano with mt teeth! Is it really worth $650. for the 90,000 service? Are their better alternatives? Anyway, I would like to be "armed" with some idea of the problem before I enter the snake pit. BTW. Anybody know of any good and honest SAAB mechanics in the Boston area?
