It's the tonneau motor hinge, located on the left side in the trunk, near the gas filler. The hinge has warped and you may be able to have it straightened. The job should not be very intimidating for any shade tree mechanic. The unit can be removed from the trunk and Tte motor should come off the hinge before heat is applied to staighten the hinge. It's a very expesive part from Saab, about $2400 CDN. That was my motivation to repair it myself instead! London & Victoria BC have very similar weather. Get it fixes before the rain! pz "Abbas Kassam" <amk1978nospamAMblueyonder.co.uk> wrote in message news:<T69Qc.80644$28.25689nospamnews.blueyonder.co.uk>... > Thanks for the help.. > > im not going to be any good at the repair and will just not use the roof for > the moment (great - just when the UK was getting some sun). > > Im not worried about paying for the repair, but know a main dealer will > fleece me. > > Does anyone know a saab specialist in the london area that could do the > work? > > Additionally can anyone recommend anywhere that could replace the hood > (after 8 yrs its looking tired despite having been restored a couple of > times) > > Cheers in advance > > "lee" <watters3nospammersorwadenospamast.net> wrote in message > news:BD35C094.48C9C%watters3nospammersorwadenospamast.net... > > On 8/3/04 11:26 AM, in article > > oNQPc.39589$a8.10276nospamnews.blueyonder.co.uk, "Abbas Kassam" > > <amk1978nospamAMblueyonder.co.uk> wrote: > > > > > Just a quick question i was hoping the group might be able to help with. > > > Recently when i have started to lower the hood the glass has raised, but > a > > > grinding noise (like the cogs grinding against one another) has come as > the > > > plastic lid has tried to raise. > > > > > > Eventually it raises and the hood folds but the noise doesn't sound > healthy. > > > Anyone have any ideas... is it just as simple as using a little WD-40 . > > > > > > I had a quick look at the motor and apart from looking a little grotty > it > > > seemed fine.. does it just need a clean.? > > > > > > Thanks in advance > > > > > > Regards > > > > > > A > > > > > > > > > > > > That's not good -- get it checked. > >
