Dave, The problem turned out to be 1. a bad fuel pump and 2. a loose connection on one of the contacts in the ign switch. The rivet connection on the contact was loose and it burnt to contact tip. Heat seemed to cause the switch to be more problematic. I changed it and all is well now.
