Subject: Never buy S/H cars with a hangover!

I (foolishly) bought a 1992 9000 CS Carlsson the other week (foolishly 'cos it looks like a I bought a bit of a dog....serves me right for being in too much of a hurry and going car hunting with a massive hangover). The car has a rear badge and an insert on the steering wheel that says Carlsson however I am not sure that it is a Carlsson as it doesn't have anything else that suggests that it is (the all-round air dam/body skirt, the lower stiffer suspension); if anyone out there knows how to tell from a VIN number (YS3CD65M3N1036906 ), I would be interested to know. However more important stuff: when I bought the car a section ofdrilled copper tube had been inserted into one of the rubber tubes between the turbo and the valve by the radiator. This I was told by someone on this group, that this was a nasty mod so I have reversed it. The problem now is that there is a total lack of performance. I am being out-accelerated by old men on bicycles. I have checked the actuator rod; it is in place and appears to be reasonably sensibly adjusted (about 10mm of screw thread showing). The turbo is definately working as it was blowing off the scale when the "modification" was in place. Any suggestions as to where to start looking for the problem....someone has suggested the electronic throttle (it has traction control) might be faulty....any comments on that. I still have my old 1991 9000S 2.3 FPT which appears to have the same turbo type (the Garrett). It has just about everything wrong with it except the engine and gearbox both of which are just fine. It is going to the scrap-yard anyway so I was wondering whether anyone can tell me if there are are any significant differences between the 91 9000S 2.3 and the 92 CS 9000 2.3....can I just drop it in? (having transferred the electromnic throttle over) Could I do away with the elecronic throttle and use the throttle body from the old one? (OK I would lose the traction control but I have never had it before so I wouldn't miss it that much). Neither the milometer nor the trip counter work....they actually record about 1 mile per 100 miles driven any one know what this is likely to be? TIA Paul BJ
