Subject: Lambda readings

Hello all, I've just had my '98 9000 2.3T tested for emissions (as part of the UK MoT annual inspection) and see that the lambda value from my car is 1.001. According the the printout, the acceptable values are between 0.970 and 1.030. The car has just over 106,000 miles on the clock and as far as I know has never had the sensor replaced. Fuel economy isn't as good as it might be, but that could easily be the fault of the fun pedal and the driver... So is it time for a new sensor? Thanks for your input.
